Webmaster's Eulogy to Mike Venable

Some years ago, someone slipped a notice under my office door inviting me to attend a Moili'ili Resident Managers' Association (MRMA) meeting. After giving it some thought, I called the telephone number listed in the flier and spoke to Mike Venable. During our conversation, he explained the agenda and encouraged me to attend the next program. Mike met me at the door and introduced himself. His welcoming handshake had a way of making newcomers like me feel as though they belonged. That was just the way he was.

As I got to know Mike better he proved to be quite a character. He was a little "rough around the edges" at times but really a friendly guy with a big heart. He was totally dedicated to bettering the position of Resident Managers. His goal was to provide us with the tools and knowledge to make our jobs better by interacting with other Resident Managers and our communities. He did it well.

MRMA grew over the years and much of the credit belongs to Mike. His commitment to the organization and fine leadership guided the group into the success they now enjoy. One thing about Mike, he was always interested in helping people. Many of us admired Mike and I am personally indebted to him and MRMA. And I'm sure I share that feeling of gratitude with many others. Mike will always be remembered by those of us who knew him and called him friend.

After the services at the cemetery I wondered how my epitaph would be written. How do I want people to remember me? What type of legacy will my life leave behind? I would like it to say that he could have added fortune to fame, but caring for neither, he found happiness and honor in being helpful to the world. He had faith that his life was not lived in vain but for a godly purpose.
